Vehicle Platooning Impact on Drag Coefficients and Energy/Fuel Saving Implications

چکیده

In this paper, empirical data obtained from the literature were used to develop models that capture impact of vehicle position in a platoon homogeneous vehicles and distance gap its lead (and following) on drag coefficient. These are developed for light duty (LDVs), buses, heavy trucks (HDTs). The fit using constrained optimization formulation then extrapolate measurements wide range gaps. results show significant reduction fuel consumption when compared with those based constant coefficient assumption. Specifically, considering minimum time between 0.5 seconds running at speed $100 \; km/hr$ , is achieved notation="LaTeX">$5 \%$ notation="LaTeX">$17 notation="LaTeX">$12 LDV, bus, HDT platoons, respectively. For longer gaps (gap notation="LaTeX">$\approx 2$ seconds), bus platoons still experience reductions order notation="LaTeX">$8 whereas LDVs incur negligible savings.

Vehicle-to-vehicle communication for AVCS platooning

Vehicle-to-vehicle radio links suffer from power variations, multipath fading and associated Doppler spreading in frequency, as well as interference form other vehicles. These effects are investigated in the context of an Automated Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS) employing vehicle platoons. A statistical model for the channel is considered and the performance of the network involving many links ...

Tank and Linnartz : Vehicle - to - Vehicle Communications for Avcs Platooning

Vehicle-to-vehicle radio links suffer from multipath fading and interference from other vehicles. We discuss the impact of these effects on communication networks supporting an intelligent transportation system (ITS), in particular, automated vehicle control systems (AVCS’s). A statistical model for this channel is considered, and the performance of the network involving many links is evaluated...

Heavy-Duty Vehicle Platooning – Modeling and Analysis

Coupled with the growth of world economy, the demand of freight transport has escalated and will continue to do so. As the traffic intensity increases, the pressure on infrastructure, energy usage and environment becomes higher than ever. Meanwhile, the number of traffic accidents is also increasing year by year as a result. Heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) platooning makes a group of HDVs driving clos...

Formal Verification of Autonomous Vehicle Platooning

The coordination of multiple autonomous vehicles into convoys or platoons is expected on our highways in the near future. However, before such platoons can be deployed, the new autonomous behaviours of the vehicles in these platoons must be certified. An appropriate representation for vehicle platooning is as a multiagent system in which each agent captures the “autonomous decisions” carried ou...

Computing Feasible Vehicle Platooning Opportunities for Transport Assignments

Vehicle platooning facilitates the partial automation of vehicles and can significantly reduce fuel consumption. Mobile communication infrastructure makes it possible to dynamically coordinate the formation of platoons en route. We consider a centralized system that provides trucks with routes and speed profiles allowing them to dynamically form platoons during their journeys. For this to work,...
